Activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and 69 other organisations of the state on Thursday pledged to continue their agitation until the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is scrapped.

Hundreds of agitators belonging to KMSS and 69 organisations observed Shankalpa Divas (Pledge Day) and gathered in front of Janata Bhawan (Assam Secretariat) at Dispur here.

The members of the organisations led by KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi staged protest against the Bill waving gamosa at Dispur.       

“We will not relent until the Bill is scraped. We on the Shankalpa Divas today have pledged to fight to save Assam, Assamese culture and Assamese language.”

The citizenship bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, but could not be tabled in the Upper House on Wednesday.
