Assam: Karbi Students’ Association condemns civilians’ killings in Nagaland

The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) has vehemently condemned the killings of innocent civilians by security forces in Nagaland‘s Mon district.

A total of 14 coal miners were killed in the firing by security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district on December 4, 2021.

The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) in a statement issued on Saturday said it unequivocally demands the withdrawal of the “draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) at the shortest possible time”.

The Association said “these laws are waging a war against our own citizens and if these laws are not revoked then there is a possibility of further alienation from mainland India”.

“The government of the day must ponder on this issue because this incident is not the first of the kind.”

The Association said many innocent lives are being lost and many others are losing their loved ones.

“Successive governments have failed to revoke this draconian law,” the Association said.

“We are waiting with bated breath for the government to act,” it added.

The KSA has expressed heartfelt condolence to the people of Nagaland.

The statement, signed by Budho Terang, general secretary of the KSA Central Executive Committee, said, “We the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of Nagaland in these testing times and pay our obeisance to the bereaved family members.”
