Karbis, Bodos and Dimasas have extended their support to the demand for Barak state raised by founder President of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA), Pradip Dutta Roy.
Within 48 hours of his demand for a separate Barak state, Pradip Dutta Roy has already started making long distance calls to All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), All India Karbi Students’ Union (AIKSU) & All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU).
Speaking to Northeast Now, on Friday at his residence in Silchar, Dutta Roy, claimed, “I have spoken to Pramod Boro this morning and he has assured of extending support to our demand for a separate state. Likewise, Karbi and Dimasa student bodies too have extended their support”.
“I am getting a lot of calls for the past two days, and time has come for us to get separated from Assam, once and for all,” Dutta Roy said.
President of Union Territory Demand Committee (UTDC) based in Silchar, Sanjit Debnath, too voiced similar concerns and said, “This demand for a separate state is not new, for we have been championing this cause since 1970. Since independence Barak has always been an area of neglect, and just as Bodos are demanding for a separate Bodoland, Barak too would raise voices for it more vigourously now”.
Meanwhile, Pradip Dutta Roy, who is a senior advocate of Gauhati High Court also, and fighting the case registered against Dr Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, the Ex-Vice Chancellor of Assam University at Dispur Police Station, said that he would appeal for the case to be withdrawn or else the lines are drawn for a long legal battle.
