Kanhaiya had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election as a CPI candidate against BJP stalwart Giriraj Singh from the Begusarai constituency in Bihar but he had lost the election.

Ever since Kumar has been lying low and his joining the Congress may be seen as the relaunch of the former JNU student’s political career.

According to report, the party’s top leadership is considering the induction of Kumar but no final decision has been taken yet.

Kumar’s possible induction into the Congress comes at a time when the national party is looking to reinvigorate itself with fresh and young faces as it looks at 2024.

Notably, speculation has been rife also about election strategist Prashant Kishor joining the Congress party.

Kishor has already met the top Congress leadership.
