A Road Safety Awareness Campaign was held on Saturday at Institute of Science and Technology of Gauhati University.
The campaign was organized by Department of Business Administration of Gauhati University in collaboration with District Road Safety Committee of Kamrup Metro.

Participating as a chief guest Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Virendra Mittal said, ‘one act of foolishness creates lots of things to the family’.
He asked the students to keep everything in limit and keep away from the hazard of mobile, mad (liquor) and motor cycle. He asked students for doing something productive because life is very short and asked to follow road safety norms.
He also appealed to the students to sign a declaration to follow road safety norms and submit within seven days to him and to create an example.

During the introduction session with students, he appealed them to be good persons to be empathetic, to be good manager of time and to plan life very well.
By quoting runner Hima Das’s ‘Mon Jai’ he also asked students to have a positive outlook and chanse one’s dreams with sincerity.
Regarding Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme for empowerment of women socially, politically and economically, the Deputy Commissioner asked the students to abolish the discretion.
In his speech, Mittal asked the Dean of Business Administration Department, Prof Dr Pradip Jain to select five students as ambassadors to work with the district administration for the cause of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
He also appealed the students in his speech to work for the people in the line of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s ‘Manuhe Mahuhor Babe’.
Before his speech, the District Transport Officer, Abdul Mannan gave the welcome address.
In this meeting, Rector of Gauhati University, Prof Dr Hari Prasad Sarma also delivered a speech regarding road safety.
