Justice Ajay Lamba was administered the oath of office by Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Monday.

Justice Ajay Lamba on Monday took oath as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court at Raj Bhawan here.

Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi administered him the oath of office at a solemn function in presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal held at Darbur Hall in Raj Bhavan, an official statement said.

The Governor administered him the oath of office under article 219 of the Constitution of India.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by judges of Gauhati High Court, members from legal fraternity, Assam chief secretary Alok Kumar, DGP Kuladhar Saikia and other senior officials of the state govt.

Lamba is former Judge of Allahabad High Court. He is also former senior most judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Born on September 21, 1958, Lamba graduated with honours in English from Government College, Chandigarh and joined the L.L.B. Course in Punjab University, Chandigarh.

He enrolled as an advocate in 1981.

Lamba was elevated as judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2006.
