File photo: Wild elephants creating havoc in Upper Assam

Herds of wild jumbos emerging almost every night out of thick vegetation cover from the Upper Dehing Reserve Forest west Block under Digboi Forest Range and frequenting to graze in the paddy field in the nearby forest villages including the Borjan Kada Basti, Balijan and Lakhipather areas. Affected villagers express their helplessness to protect their harvest.

However, the forest personnel and the members of the local NGO the Evergreen Foundation are passing sleepless nights to avert any incident of man -elephant conflict as occurred recently at various locations of Digboi Forest Division.
