The journalist in Kamalpur has boycotted Tripura chief minister, Biplab Kumar Deb as a mark of protest against the rising attacks on different sections of the media in Tripura.

The chief minister had gone to Kamalpur in Dhalai district on Saturday to attend a programme. However, no journalist covered the event.

In the latest attack on the media, miscreants had destroyed about 600 copies of the ‘Pratibadi Kalam’ a Bengali newspaper in Udaipur on Saturday morning.

The particular newspaper is published from Agartala.

Supriya Datta, secretary of the Kamalpur Press Club said, “Attacks on media are increasing in Tripura. The journalists boycotted the chief minister to protest against these attacks.”

Several journalists also went to the police headquarters in Agartala to meet the deputy inspector general, southern range. They said that if the culprits, who had destroyed copies of the newspaper were not arrested within 24 hours, they would start a demonstration in front of the police headquarter.
