Lights, camera, action. The mahurat shot of a short feature film on women’s empowerment was given at a small office complex here on Saturday.  Renowned singer and movie maker Jayanta Nath gave the mahurat shot.

The movie makers, most of them students, have no experience, no actor of repute, no finance to speak of but they have all the gumption needed to make a film which they hope would make a difference in society.

The script, written and conceived by Nayanika Bora, has to do with a woman whose writings are opposed by her husband for various reasons.

The complex plot also encompasses within it the muzzling of the press. The film will have subtitles in English.

Nayanika and most of the team members have either completed or are still studying in the one year course on Film Studies offered by JB College here. The actors too have experience in stage acting or in bhaonas and are raring to try their skills for the silver screen.

Addressing the gathering he said that in today’s age a DSLR camera was all that was needed to put together a good shot.

“Many good films have been shot with a DSLR and there are many forums where short feature films can find an audience apart from the ubiquitous YouTube,” he said. He further gave them tips on how to take shots and on editing.

Nayanika said as they did not have access to a good sound studio, dialogue would be minimal.
Most of the scenes would be shot in the house of a friend and in and around Jorhat. The cast comprises Rimjhim Gogoi and Debashis Kalita in the lead, Jintu Borbora as a political leader, and supported by Snigdha Mahanta, Anupam Nath, Gautam Bezbaruah Tanmoy Dutta, Bhaktajyoti Neog, Dipankar Jyoti Dutta and Rahul Dutta. On the camera will be Bikash Bora, Pranjal Kerketta and Trishanku Sharma and editing by Sandeep Sharma.

All of them are members of Deex, a socio- cultural organisation founded three years ago.
