Jorhat MP, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, on Wednesday paid a visit to the Jorhat District Transport Officer’s office to be greeted by spice and span rooms with files stacked neatly in place.
The MPs visit came in wake of an SBI employee Nayan Jyoti Sarmah putting up photos on social media depicting the chaotic condition of files containing documents and records of vehicles strewn all over the place including the corridors and verandah.
The MP berated the staff and said that in future no citizen should be allowed to search for his own files in the store room. He asked the DTO and the employees to maintain a system while stacking more than two-lakh files.
Tasa also called up Sarmah to tell him that he had taken stock of the situation and that in future he or any other citizen would not have to face such a horrendous situation.

The backlash following social media report forced the DTO to press about ten persons into service and clean up the place overnight and enforce the rule that no one except staff would be allowed to access the files.
Sarmah who had gone to the office on Tuesday to extend the registration of his car was told to come back after a week because the store keeper could not find the file in the mess.
So pathetic was the system in keeping the files that people had to wade through and walk on other people’s files in a bid to find their own.
Sarmah too tried to search out his file containing the registration document of his car made out five years ago but was stifled by the dust and had to leave with the promise that the file would be found within a week.
Sarmah said that he was happy that the MP had taken prompt action and hoped that no other person would have to face what he had.
Tasa further told MVIs present that he had heard about the MVIs running a syndicate and indulging in corruption and that he would soon hold a meeting with them regarding this.
