The Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) will come up with a separate Out Patient Department (OPD) registration counter for patients coming from Majuli.
According to report in The Assam Tribune, JMCH Deputy Superintendent Dr Nilotpal Bhattacharjee said that for the convenience of patients coming from Majuli, who come from remote areas and have to travel a long distance through waterway and road to reach JMC for which the new service will be introduced.

Dr Bhattacharjee said that patients from Majuli will have to produce identity proof documents like voter I-D card/bank passbook or government issued ration card to get their registration through the counter marked only for Majuli patients.
The Deputy Superintendent said that the ticket issued to patients on payment of Rs 10 for registration will have Majuli printed on it.
He said that the patients from Majuli will be given priority in terms of conducting the tests required so that they could, if not required hospitalision, could return to the island the same day.

Dr Bhattacharjee said that at present there are four general registration counters and another one for senior citizens, diffrently-abled and staff of JMCH.
Majuli, which was upgraded into a district about two years ago by the government, is represented by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in the Assembly.
