In a significant development in the sensational Jogdal murder case, the sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday arrested two police officials, more than eight years after the incident, which shook the entire State.
The arrested police officials are Pranab Kumar Deka, the then officer-in-charge of Sonapur Police Station and Abdul Matif Choudhury, the then investigating officer of the case in Sonapur police station.

“The investigation into the case which many alleged was swept under the carpet largely due to political interference has now gained momentum and more skeletons could come out of the closet,” a top Assam Police official told a section of media.
Harakanta Doloi and five other of his family were killed by miscreants in Jogdal area under Sonapur police station in 2009.
The case, which was initially investigated by the Sonapur police, was later handed over to the CID for investigation

Both Deka and Choudhury are charged with destroying the evidences with a motive to shield the culprits.
It was allegedly at the insistence of Deka, the then officer-in-charge, the scene of murder (house) was burnt down by some unidentified persons, including a few locals.
Several high-profile names including the then Congress Minister Akon Bora too surfaced in the mass murder episode which remains as a mystery till date.
The case (CID police station case number 18/2012) has been registered under Sec 120(B), 436, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
