The CJM’s court on Thursday sent the two arrested police officials to 14-day judicial custody as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) did not seek their custody for further questioning.
The CID arrested police officials—Pranab Kumar Deka and Abdul Motlif Choudhury—in connection with the Jogdal murder case on Wednesday .
Both Deka and Choudhury were charged for destroying the evidence in their capacities as the officer-in-charge of Sonapur police station and the investigating officer respectively of the Jogal murder case in which six members of a family were murdered in cold blood.
Sources said sufficient evidences have been found against the duo for not discharging their duties.
“We are trying to reconnect the dots although a substantial period of time has elapsed since the murder took place,” a CID official said.
Asked why police custody was not sought in such a high-profile case, investigators reasoned stating that all necessary statements have already been recorded from the duo to prove the case against them.
The duo is facing charges under Section 120 B, 436 and 210 of the IPC.
Harakanta Doloi and five other of his family were killed by miscreants in Jogdal area under Sonapur police station in 2009.
The case, which was initially investigated by the Sonapur police, was later handed over to the CID for investigation.
Several high-profile names including the then Congress Minister Akon Bora too surfaced in the mass murder episode which remains as a mystery till date.
