RANCHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence on Tuesday (July 16) that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the next government in Jharkhand.
Jharkhand is among those scheduled to hold elections later this year.
“We have to form our government in Jharkhand. We need to change the present government and bring in the BJP’s double-engine government. We will definitely win,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said while briefing the media.
“I am not doing any research work; just see the result of the Lok Sabha election. We got such a good response,” the Assam CM added.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Anurag Thakur highlighted that creating Jharkhand as a separate state was a long-held dream of the BJP, realized by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“In the last two decades, Jharkhand could have reached new heights, but due to various reasons, especially in the last five years, many promises were unfulfilled and the state’s growth was compromised,” Thakur said.
He added: “Significant cash recoveries have been made from many leaders in the last five years.”
The BJP MP also claimed that the current government in Jharkhand has failed and the people are ready for change.
“You can see UP and Assam as examples of the success of the double-engine government,” he added.
On July 08, Hemant Soren, who was sworn in as the Jharkhand chief minister for the third time recently, won a floor test in a special session of the state assembly, securing the support of 45 MLAs.

Soren had previously resigned before his arrest on January 31 on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering.
He was released on bail from the Jharkhand high court in June after nearly five months in Birsa Munda Jail.
In the 2019 assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), allied with the Congress and Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), secured a comfortable majority with 47 seats in the 81-member house.
Hemant Soren’s return as chief minister is expected to strengthen the JMM, which won three seats in the tribal-dominated state in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
