IPS officer Violet Baruah has become the first woman IGP of Assam.
Sharing the information on her Twitter handle on Monday, Baruah said she has been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Expressing her feelings on being promoted to the prestigious rank in the police department, Violet Baruah tweeted on Monday: “Promoted to the rank of IGP.”
“Feeling blessed to be the first lady IGP in the state of Assam,” she wrote.
An IPS officer of the 2005 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Violet Baruah has served the Assam Police department in various places.
In February 2019, IPS officer Violet Baruah emerged as the first woman DIG of Assam Police.
On the occasion of Republic Day 2021, Violet Baruah was honoured with the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service in January.
A brilliant student, Violent Baruah, who studied at Cotton College (now University), Baruah earlier served as as the Commandant of 9th APBn, Barhampur.
In 2020, Violet Baruah was posted as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in BTAD.
