The sixth International Tourism Mart kicked off on Tuesday in Guwahati with Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi lit the ceremonial lamp at a city hotel.

The three-day event has been organized to showcase the tourism potential of the region.

The Tourism Mart witnessed the presence of about  66 travel writers, decision makers and tour operators from 29 countries and more than hundred buyers and sellers of tourism products from various parts of the country are also participating.
Inaugurating the mart Governor Mukhi said the tourism mart is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the tourism sector of North East across the country and outside.

The mart will definitely open doors to unlimited opportunities for everyone to explore “Awesome Assam” which is blessed with myriad and unexplored destinations, he said.

He also said that keeping in mind the “Act East Policy” in view; this tourism mart is a wonderful platform in developing inter-regional tourism between the ASEAN and North Eastern Region of India as well as with BIMSTEC countries.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while drawing broad canvas of Assam Tourism before the delegates said that Assam is a land where the biggest Shakti Peeth, Kamakhya, is located; where the Poa Makka and the Haygrib Madhab Temple exist harmoniously side by side since ages.

He said that Government of Assam is working resolutely to create infrastructure at places of worship with various religious denominations including Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians and Jains.

Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism K.J. Alphons while speaking on the occasion said that Northeast is the most beautiful place under the earth as he expressed his commitment to bring the rate of development of north east tourism at par with other developed regions of the country.
