India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das called on Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Tuesday.

She is in Guwahati for India Bangladesh Stakeholders’ Meet.

Ganguly  apprised Mukhi of various steps Government of India has taken to enhance bilateral relations with Bangladesh with special reference to Assam.

The meeting which lasted for around 20 minutes highlighted, how Government of India is extending bilateral relations with Bangladesh with special emphasis on trade and communication.

Considering Assam’s geographical proximity with Bangladesh and the impending potential of reviving the trade and communication routes between Assam and Bangladesh, the duo discussed on issues that need to be addressed for reviving the defunct communication links between two geographical entities.

Governor Prof Mukhi stressed on re-operationalizing the water routes through Chattagram and Mongala ports and rail routes through Sabroom and Mahisasan to intensify trade relations for the mutual benefits of both India and Bangladesh.

They also discussed to reap dividends in view of Government of India’s Act East Policy and intensifying trade activities through Assam.
