Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday asked the Golaghat DC to identify the location and land for the proposed medical college, Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya and integrated DC office in the district.

Chief minister Sarma on Wednesday reviewed the COVID 19 pandemic, its treatment and vaccination as well as status of various development programmes in Golaghat district with officials of the administration and other departments in a meeting held at the auditorium of Sati Sadhani Kalakshetra.

While reviewing the measures taken for containing the COVID pandemic, the chief minister stressed the need of ensuring total vaccination by deploying officials for door to door inoculation.

He also asked DC Mrigesh Narayan Baruah and health officials to set a target of at least 10,000 jabs per day.

Further, taking stock of the implementation of central government’s flagship Jal Jeevan Mission, the Chief Minister directed the district administration to put the spot light on tea garden areas, anganwadi centres and elementary schools.

He also asked the district functionaries to achieve complete implementation of the Mission in a time-bound manner to give pipe water connection to all households, schools and other social institutions, especially in the village areas.

Chief minister Sarma also reviewed the progress of different roads under construction in Golaghat district.

He asked the PWD (Roads) to start the project of converting the existing road from Dergaon to Golaghat into a four-lane road.

He also asked the district functionaries to expeditiously complete Asom Mala project in Golaghat.

The Assam chief minister also made a slew of direction to the PWD (Buildings) during the review.

He asked the department to prepare a blueprint for sports complexes in Dergaon and Sarupothar constituencies of the Golaghat district.

Agriculture minister Atul Bora, health minister Keshab Mahanta, finance minister Ajanta Neog, MLAs Mrinal Saikia, Biswajit Phukan, Bhaben Bharali, DC, SP and other senior officers of the government were present during the meeting.

The chief minister also inspected three pieces of land for the proposed Medical College and Birangana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyalaya.

Later, chief minister Sarma also unveiled a life-size statue of Birangana Sati Sadhani at the Sati Sadhani Kalakshetra in Golaghat.

The statue designed by eminent sculptor Ranjit Bora is the manifestation of the courage, patriotism and sacrifice of Birangana Sati Sadhani.

The Chief Minister on the occasion also offered his tributes to this icon of valour and patriotism.
