A Supreme Court lawyer, Utsav Bains, has come to the rescue of Assam-born Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi who has been charged with sexual misconduct by a former Supreme Court staffer.
Just like the CJI, Bains also smells a rat into the whole issue – “It is a conspiracy to remove the judge from office”.
He further stated that an unidentified man tried to “bribe” him with Rs 1.5 crore to “organise a media conference and frame the CJI at the Press Club of India”.
Bains said that the man had also asked him to represent the dismissed Supreme Court staffer who has levelled sexual misconduct allegations against the judiciary head.

In a Facebook post, Utsav Bains said: “I was offered bribe to help frame CJI in the sexual harassment case by lawyering and organising a press conference against the CJI for the ex-SC staffer who has accused the CJI of sexual harassment just a few days back and also specifically asked to organise a press conference only at the Press Club of India.”
Bains further said that the man who had offered him bribe introduced himself as a relative of the woman who had accused Asaram Babu of rape.
The SC lawyer is convinced that there was a “larger conspiracy to make CJI Gogoi resign”.
