The state government have allocated a budget to modernize 500 playgrounds in rural areas to promote sports talents, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said at Khoirabari in Udalguri district on Tuesday.

“The state government has taken up various steps to develop sports infrastructure in the state,” Sonowal said attending as chief guest in the final match of 19th Bodoland Martyr’s Goldcup Football tournament.

The tourney was organized at Khoirabari stadium by Khoirabari Sports Association and Khoirabari Anchalik  Committee All Bodo Students Union(ABSU).

Sonowal lauding boxer, Bhagyawati Kachari and Archerer Promila Daimary and other sporting talents of state announced that the state government is looking to implement various welfare policies to promote
sporting talent in the region.

He also assured upgradation of the Khoirabari Stadium and establishment of a modern Archery Training centre in Bhergaon sub-division for honing the budding talents of the region.

“The state government has strived for the giving equal priorities to people irrespective of class, community and religious barrier by promoting peace and brotherhood among the different communities in both Brahmaputra and Barak valley.” He added.

He further stated that the state government has formulate a sports policy in an effort to transform Guwahati into India’s sports capital, he said.

The event was also attended  by President of Assam Football Association,Hemendra Nath Brahma;Mangaldai Lok Sabha MP,Ramen Deka;State Cabinet Minister,Bhabesh Kalita,Kalaigaon MLA,Maheswar Baro;Paneri MLA,Kamali Basumatari among others.
