The Khatkhati police have seized a huge consignment of banned cannabis from a container truck along Assam-Nagaland border in Bokajan on Sunday.
Police have also arrested two person including the driver and helper of the bus in connection.
As per reports, based on a specific input, the police manning the Khatkhati interstate police checkpost on NH-39 intercepted the incoming truck bearing registration number AS-01 HC 0068 and recovered the cannabis concealed inside the vehicle.
A total of 210 kilograms of cannabis wrapped in black tarpaulin were recovered from the truck.
The approximate face value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 21 Lakh in the black market.
Police have arrested one Riju Rajbonshi, a resident of Nalbari and Pranjal Deka, a resident in Mangaldai in this connection.
A police official said a case under relevant section of NDPS Act has been registered against the duo.
Further investigation is on to ascertain the exact details of source and delivery of the seized item, said the official.
There has been a recent spike in smuggling of banned psychopathic drugs including cannabis and goods of Burmese origin into Assam through Karbi Anglong.
Most of the drugs from the infamous Golden triangle also enter Assam through Karbi Anglong.
Earlier, the Dillai police manning the interstate police check post over NH 36 at Dillai recovered a huge quantity of Ganja concealed with other items of Burmese origin from a Night bus back in September, 2019.
