Police have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition and arrested five people along the Assam-Nagaland border in Karbi Anglong district.

As per reports, a joint team of Karbi Anglong police and 5 Assam Rifles based in Dimapur on Friday intercepted a Gypsy car in the Naharjan area bordering Nagaland and recovered 3 AK- 56 Rifle with 75 rounds of ammunition and a pistol with 8 round ammunition from the vehicle.

Police have arrested all five occupants of the vehicle.

They have been identified as Akhui Kashung, Ngmpoi, Wungreingam, Ashang Chithung and Lanchungrei Kamei in connection said a police official.

A case under section 120(B) IPC R/W Sec. 25(1-A) of the Arms Act has been registered and a detailed investigation is underway.

Earlier in August, the 5 Assam Rifle assisted in a similar recovery in the Gharialdubi area under Bokajan Police Station seized a .22 Rifle, 3 Pistols and two hand grenades.
