Hindus living in India are not foreigners, says BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev

In yet another controversial statement, Assam BJP legislator Shiladitya Dev on Monday said that no Hindus living in India are foreigners.

“It is crystal clear that all Hindus are born in India. So no Hindus can be a foreigner,” Dev told reporters after meeting the agitating activists of the Bengali Jautha Samannay Samiti, Asom at Dispur Last Gate here.

The activists of the Bengali Jautha Samannay Samiti, Asom, a conglomeration of several Hindu Bengali organisations, staged a protest against dropping five key documents from the list for 15 admissible documents for the claims and objections exercise of the NRC.

Before meeting the agitators, Hojai MLA Dev entered the Assam Legislative Assembly holding a placard that read- “My Lord do not discriminate your own children. Hindu–born in India.”

Dev displayed the card addressing the Judges of the Supreme Court. The NRC update process is being carried out under the direct supervision of the Supreme Court. A bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and RF Nariman are monitoring the update process.
