Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated a 900-bed COVID19 care hospital at the College of Veterinary Science playground, Khanapara in Guwahati.

Minister of state for health, Pijush Hazarika, was also present during at the inaugural ceremony.

Health minister Sarma informed that the hospital has individual rooms with attached bathrooms for the COVID19 patients.

Sarma hoped, the COVID19 care hospital will strengthen the treatment capacity of the health department amid the surge in positive cases.

“It shall strengthen our treatment capacity amid rising number of positive cases,” he added.

Earlier, the health minister inaugurated a new testing lab at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, Panbazar in Guwahati.

The minister informed that this is the 13th COVID19 testing lab in Assam.

He announced that 6 more such labs will be set up in the state soon.

“We have been continuously scaling up our testing abilities & improving our medical infra to ensure best management of pandemic,” Sarma said.

“Inaugurated the new testing lab at MMCH. Pleased to share that it is the 13th #COVID19 testing lab in Assam & 6 more labs shall come soon,” he said in an earlier tweet.
