Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen pandal hopping in Silchar on Sunday on the occasion of Maha Ashtami.

He was in Aizawl on Saturday and was with union home minister Amit Shah who was on a one-day visit to the city.

The finance minister did not miss out on a single puja pandal and he made sure that he offered puja in every pandal.

Speaking to Northeast Now at Shyama Prasad Road Durga Puja, Sarma said, “Yesterday I was in Aizawl and I didn’t want to miss the chance of watching puja festivities of this town.”

“My presence out here is completely a non-political one and I would like to visit each and every pandal of this town, for which, shall halt for the night,” he added.

Taking to his twitter handle, Sarma said, “I am blessed for I could offer puja with everyone at various puja pandals of Silchar on the occasion of Maha Ashtami today. I wish the Goddess will look upon us and bless us with unity, harmony and prosperity.”

In Shyama Prasad Road Durga Puja, minister Sarma sought blessings of Goddess Durga and later spent some time with the organizers and residents of the locality.

Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy, accompanying the minister, said, “It is for the first time that we are witnessing a high profile leader pandal hopping that we are passing through.”

“I am really grateful and would like to extend my warm wishes to Himanta Biswa Sarma, that he has kept his word of watching Durga Puja this time round in Silchar and my constituency,” Roy added.
