80 organizations from the three Barak Valley districts– Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi-would meet the members of the panel till Saturday afternoon.
“Yesterday, a team had visited Kokrajhar and today we are here in Silchar. We would meet various organizations of the three districts and hear what they have to say on this issue,” AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath told reporters.
He said since there is a clause for safeguarding the rights of the indigenous people of Assam, we would hear each and every one because we believe that there are many ethnic and linguistic communities residing in this part of the state.

“How can we safeguard our identity as an Assamese and how we can unify the diverse ethnic and linguistic groups are the biggest question,” said the AASU leader.
The Union home ministry in July this year reconstituted the high-level committee to implement Clause 6 of 1985 Assam Accord.
The panel was earlier set up in January this year.
The new panel was formed with former Gauhati high court judge Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma as the chairman.
