Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said Anandaram Dhekial Phukan through his poetry and literature spread the seeds of knowledge among the younger generations.

He also said the youth should indulge in diligence to attain the knowledge of the dreams of litterateur of the yesteryears.

Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Anandaram Dhekial Phukan College in Nagaon, Sonowal termed students’ life as one of the golden period in one’s life.

He urged upon the students to use their time constructively so that they can also glitter when they grow up in life.

He also asked the students to hone their talents and face the competition in life with confidence.

Referring to the great men who attained success through hard work, Sonowal said that the schools and colleges in Assam should contribute to the growth of the State.

He also stated that considering the immense importance of schools and colleges, the present State Government adopted several schemes.

Acknowledging the immense potential of students, Sonowal said to utilize the power of the students, his government is trying to empower the student community.

He also said that to strengthen the democratic knowledge of the students, his government has made the provision for the students to visit Legislative Assembly and see its proceedings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of transforming India into a global leader and students need to empower themselves and contribute to the growth of the nation, Sonowal emphasized.

The chief minister also said that for the progress of the Northeast, the Centre has adopted Act East Policy to make friendly relations with ASEAN and BBN countries.

In this backdrop the students of the State, need to establish their supremacy to take a lead in the human resource landscape of the entire South East Asian Region.

He also stated that for the development of connectivity of the region, Prime Minister Modi has set a target of achieving Transformation through Transportation.

Emphasizing that Nagaon as the birth place of Shankardev has its prominence in all aspects and urged upon the students of the district to be a path finder in the academic journey of the State.

He also expressed hope that the herbal science course introduced by Nagaon College will help in achieving Prime Minister Modi’s programme of transforming Northeast in to an organic hub.

He also assured all help from his government in this regard.

Union minister of state for food processing Rameswar Teli, MLA Rupak Sarma and principal of Anandaram Dhekial Phukan college Dr Surajit Kumar Bhagawati also spoke on the occasion.

MLA Roha Dimbeswar Das, former union minister Rajen Gohian, deputy commissioner Jadhab Saikia, superintendent of police Sankarbrata Rai Medhi and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Earlier, chief minister Sonowal paid floral tributes to the statue of Anandaram Dhekial Phukan.

He also interacted with the students of Nagaon Bengali Girls’ High School who took active part in swacchata abhiyan.
