GUWAHATI: Weather conditions in the Northeast state of Assam are likely to deteriorate with heavy rainfall expected over the next few days.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati issued a statement, cautioning about turbulent weather conditions in Assam.

According to the RMC-Guwahati, heavy rainfall is likely to lash different parts of Assam between April 15 and April 18.

Assam is likely to encounter turbulent weather conditions owing to a cyclonic circulation over North Bangladesh and its vicinity, combined with moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal.

As per the RMC-Guwahati forecast, Assam is set to witness thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and scattered to widespread rainfall during this period.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Assam on April 16 and 17.

On April 15, isolated thunderstorms and lightning incidents are predicted in Baksa, Nalbari, Bajali, Tamulpur, Kamrup-Metro, Darang, Udalguri, East Karbianglong, West Karbianglong, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Bishwanath and Lakhimpur districts of Assam.

Several locales in Assam may experience light to moderate rainfall on April 16, with heavy rainfall anticipated in isolated areas across districts like Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Darang and Udalguri.

Come April 17, light to moderate rainfall is foreseen across numerous areas, with isolated heavy rainfall potential in districts such as Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Majuli, and Dibrugarh.

Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds may occur in isolated spots.

Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected over districts like Jorhat, Majuli, Sibsagarh, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia on April 18, accompanied by mild to moderate rainfall in several areas.
