The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Assam Government has been making tall claims of progress in development works of several departments, but in reality, it is a totally different picture all together.
The hollow claims of the State Government has been exposed at the construction of the Hatimura embankment in State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta’s home constituency, Kaliabor.
Even though the Minister has claimed that the embankment is free from any impending danger, the locals are not convinced.
A visit to ground zero will expose that sufficient work is still left in the repair of the embankment.
To add to the woes, frequent intrusion by wild elephants in the region has also caused extensive damage to the embankment.
Even though the breached portion of the dyke that was washed away by the surging flood waters of River Brahmaputra last year and a stretch of another three km has been repaired, installation of tubes are still not complete.
Even though one of the agencies among the two entrusted with repairing the Hatimura dyke have finished their assigned work, the other is yet to finish theirs.
Meanwhile, the locals who were affected due to breach of the dyke last year are yet to get their due compensation.
The State Government and the administration are silent over the compensation even after one year though collection of necessary documents was done long time back.
