Hardcore ULFA-I cadre Tejoshree Asom netted in Dibrugarh

A hardcore cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) was apprehended on Tuesday  during a joint operation by the Army and police from Kachomari Hatigar village in Khowang under Dibrugarh district.

The apprehended ULFA-I cadre has been identified as Dipanjit Handique alias Tejoshree Asom.

According to sources, after getting specific information about the presence of that Tejoshree Asom in the area, an operation was launched jointly by the 9 Rajputana Rifles Battalion under the Dao Division and Dibrugarh Police in which the hardcore militant cadre was nabbed.

He was later arrested by Dibrugarh Police.

Sources also said that Tejoshree Asom was a key aide to Nayan Medhi of the militant outfit. The apprehended cadre revealed that he had joined militant outfit ULFA-I in 2014.

On March 30 last,  a Myanmar-trained ULFA-I cadre, Gautam Dadhora alias Gunjan Asom, was nabbed by the police from Bongalgaon area of Dibrugarh district.

According to highly-placed sources, ULFA-I has been passing through severe financial crisis and has become desperate to launch extortion drive in Upper Assam’s tea gardens.

Tejoshree Asom’s arrest has been termed as a major boost for the security personnel.

It may be mentioned that the ULFA-I has come under severe criticism after the brave-heart, Officer-in-Charge of Bordumsa Police Station, Bhaskar Kalita, was killed in an encounter with militants of the militant outfit couple of days back.

On April 21, 2018, a suspected ULFA-I cadre was apprehended during a joint operation by the Namrup Police, Maibella Army Camp and Joysagar Army Camp under the aegis of the Dao Division.

The operation was launched on the basis of intelligence inputs. The suspected ULFA-I cadre was identified as SS Pvt Navdeep Chetia, a resident of Bokota Kalithan, Nemuguri in Sivasagar district. He is the son of late Vijay Chetia.
