Police on Saturday night arrested one Sahid Ahmed Laskar from LGBI Airport here on charges of raping his wife with Algapur AIUDF MLA Nijam Uddin Choudhury.

Laskar was arrested by a team of Azara police while he was trying to flee to Mumbai, a day after his wife filed a complaint at Hailakandi police station on Friday, alleging that the AIUDF MLA had raped her at Hailakandi circuit house on May 19 in cahoots with Laskar, who is her husband, and later at her house on May 23.

A case (No. 592/18) was registered under Sections 376, 342 and 35 of the IPC at Hailakandi police station.

The police said the woman alleged that Laksar did not allow her to go out of their house, for which she could not file the FIR earlier, and that she somehow managed to get out and file the FIR on Friday.

The MLA refuted the allegations as “baseless” and a “conspiracy” against him. He said the woman had come to him with her husband to settle their family problem and that he had no connection with her.
