Guwahati got the first road constructed by using 1.24 MT of plastic waste. The road has been constructed in Narangi Military Stationa rea of the city.

This is a pilot project of the Military Engineer Services for road construction.

PRO Guwahati, Ministry of Defence tweeted, “In line with the Govt’s mission against #singleuse plastic and initiative to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic waste, 1.24 MT of waste plastic has been used to construct a road in Narangi Military Station which is a pilot project of MES for road construction.”

A World Economic Forum report states that the roads made from plastic waste plastic are greener and also more durable even in extreme weather conditions like floods and heat as compared to the conventional roads.

Goalpara is the first district of Assam where a road was constructed using plastic waste.
