The Government of Assam has proposed to set up a museum in the name of the great vaishnavite saint at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

This is in a bid to project the multifaceted personality of Srimanta Sankardev and his contributions to the Assamese society in a more structured manner among the new generation as well as domestic and foreign visitors.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed the progress of the project in a meeting on Tuesday.

“Srimanta Sankardev is a versatile personality who embodies the true spirit of a world human being. He is not simply a cultural connoisseur and religious guru. He is an unparalleled personality who shaped the Assamese society”, Sonowal said adding that the proposed institution should therefore be a glorification of his towering individuality.

Sonowal advised the officials of cultural affairs department to undertake adequate research on his personality and contributions and prepare the structural design and internal manifestations of the museum.

Minister of State (i/c) for Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley, Additional Chief Secretary VB Pyarelal, Commissioner & Secretary Pritom Saikia, Secretary to Chief Minister Ranjan Chakraborty, vice president of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Society Surya Hazarika, eminent artist and member of the society Pulok Gogoi, Tapan Bhattacharjya and other members were present in the meeting.
