Many guardians and conscious citizens have expressed resentment over holding of unprecedented cultural nites by BB Engineering College (BBEC) in Kokrajhar at a time when the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2018 is going on.

As per allegation, cultural nites have been organized at the BTC Secretariat Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar since February 15 without any break.

The organizers have used DJ sound system allegedly in full volume which has hampered the students appearing in the ongoing Class X examinations.

Several conscious citizens, teachers, students’ leaders, scholars, intellectuals and students while sharing their bitter experiences said that holding of cultural evenings consecutively for several days at the time of ongoing HSLC examination was not only ‘unfortunate’ but also ‘widely condemnable’. They questioned the BTC authority and the Kokrajhar district administration as to why and for whose interest, the permission was given and the organisers were allowed to use volume beyond limit.

Criticising both the BTC authority and the district administration, the conscious section of citizens and guardians have questioned whether they have no regard towards the students’ community as HSLC and Higher Secondary (HS) final examinations are considered to be most important examinations for students to choose their career in life.

High-level sources at the BB Engineering College on condition of anonymity told Northeast Now that the decision of holding the College Week at Bodofa Nwgwr was taken by the students’ union body. When asked as to why they did not choose Bodofa Cultural Complex near to the college which has every facility for mega event, the sources replied that the students’ body had ignored the suggestions.

Meanwhile, due to the bursting volume, the students appearing in the Class X examinations from Kokrajhar town, Kashiabari, Kargaon, Romanpara, Sudempuri, North Kashiabari, Bhabanipur, Titaguri, Dimalgaon, Bhatarmari, Bodosa Bank Colony, Swmdwnpuri, Mijink Nwgwr, Maibong Nwgwr, Tengapara etc. have been badly affected. It is also learnt that the students have failed to concentrate on their studies due to high volume of DJ sound system.

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Bodoland Students’ Union (BSU) and Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) have also remained silent in this regard. “Who will take responsibility of the impact of the cultural evenings on the examinees” is now a big question for all.

As per information, a number of artistes from different parts of the country including Mumbai have been invited to the BB Engineering College function.
