GST: Assam Governor urges chartered accountants to play catalytic role

Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Friday urged the chartered accounts of the region to play a catalytic role to help the people and business establishments in ensuring smooth transition to a new tax regime ‘One Nation One Tax’  which has been necessitated in view of GST roll out.

Inaugurating a two-day national conference organized by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India, Guwahati Branch held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre here, Governor Mukhi said help and support from the chartered accountants would help the region in its smooth changeover to one nation one tax regime.

The Governor said, “The fact that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the premier accounting body of the nation, the conference will go a long way in empowering its members to keep pace with the rapid growth of the accountancy profession. I am happy that the institute has achieved recognition globally, for its contribution in the fields of education, professional development, maintenance of high accounting, auditing and ethical standards.”

The Governor further added that the role of Indian Chartered Accountants of India is crucial in strengthening the fulcrum on which the entire accounting system of the nation revolves.

“I hope the National Conference becomes a brainstorming session of the Chartered Accountants which helps in strengthening our financial management system to a great extent,” he said.

He further said that the role of chartered Accountants has achieved added significance in the wake of demonetisation drive guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Now the Chartered Accounts of the country have to contribute to the nation building exercise by virtue of their insight and foresight of the various advantages that the nation can gain by this momentous move.

The Chartered Accounts are in a position to realize and appreciate that this great move would go a long way in achieving the long cherished dream which the forefather of our nation and the freedom fighters must have held – that of a corruption free India in which every citizen can be a partner in nation building and one that is not plagued by the ills of black marketing, hoarding, corruption, red-tapism, the Governor added.
