Kamrup Metropolitan deputy commissioner, Biswajit Pegu on Thursday said the grocery section of shopping malls and department stores in the district will be allowed to continue its operations from Thursday.

“In the interest of public service, the grocery section of shopping malls and departmental stores of Kamrup Metropolitan District are exempted from the lockdown process w.e.f. March 26, 2020 morning,” stated an official notification.

The deputy commissioner has also stated that the grocery section of shopping malls and departmental stores will be allowed to operate under some strict conditions.

As per the notification, grocery items at the current market price will only be allowed to be sold from shopping malls and departmental stores in the district.

“Penal action will be initiated if hoarding of items and selling of items in higher price is reported,” it added.

Moreover, five persons will be allowed to enter at a time in a shop.

“Only five persons/customers will enter the shop at a time and the management will maintain social distancing,” the notification added.

The shop owners have also been asked to sanitize their shops frequently and the usage of plastic has also been banned.

“Shop owner/management will frequently sanitize the mart/shop and maintain hygiene. Use of plastic will not be allowed,” the notification added.
