Government committed to empower the people of Assam: Sonowal

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday presented the Bir Chilarai Award to Arjuna awardee athlete Bhogeswar Baruah.

The award, which carries a citation, xarai, anga bastra and a cheque of Rs 3 lakh, was presented during the Bir Chilarai Divas celebration at ITI playground in Bongaigaon.

Speaking on the occasion CM Sonowal said, “In this age of competition, we should strive to follow the ideals and examples of Chilarai to build the Assam of our dreams.”

“Our Government is the government for the people and by the people. Our Government remains committed to realising the aspirations of the indigenous people of Assam,” he said.

The CM also said that for Assam to scale greater heights, everyone needs to work hard.

“People belonging to Koch Rajbongshi community are known for their dedication and diligence and they have contributed a lot in making Assam prosperous every field,” he said.

He also said that since charge, the present State government gave one lakh indigenous people land pattas.

He reiterated that his government has been consistently working to strengthen the adage ‘Amar Asom, Amar Maati, Amar Adhikar’.

“The State government will always remain committed to empowering the people of each and every community of the state,” he added.

“The formation of Kamatapur Autonomous Council is the testimony of the government’s commitment to fulfilling the aims and aspirations of the people belonging to Koch Rajbongshi community,” he further said.

He also said that his government is committed to safeguarding the interests of all ethnic groups of the state and the interests of all the ethnic groups form the priorities of the government.

The CM also released a souvenir titled ‘Sangramsingha’ on the occasion.
