Gohain to lay foundation stone for electrification work in Guwahati tomorrow

Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain on Wednesday lay the foundation stone for Railway electrification work between Guwahati and Lumding.

According to information, the electrification project to cost Rs 240 crore and 303 km of railway line will be electrified.

The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held at the Guwahati Railway Stadium, Maligaon in Guwahati at 11.45 am.

The MoS for Railways, Rajen Gohain, will also inaugurate a passenger lift at Platform No 2 & 3 in Guwahati Railway Station.

The lift will ensure ease of passenger movements, especially senior citizens and divyangjan.

It has been informed that the programme will be streamed live in the facebook page of the Railway Minister – RailMinIndia.

According to the Indian Railways, the electric trains are more energy efficient and pollution free. Besides, speed and carrying capacity of trains will also increase.

The MoS for Railways, Gohain will also lay the foundation stone of Guwahati Station re-development work project. The project will cover all-round improvement of amenities in Guwahati Railway Station including construction of more retiring rooms and an International Tourist Bureau.

This project will cost Rs 15 core.

Informing about the foundation lying programme, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Maligaon, on its offcial Twitter handle on Tuesday stated: “Minister of State of Railways Shri Rajen Gohain to lay foundation for electrification of 180km Guwahati – Lumding section of N. F. Railway tomorrow. He will also lay foundation of Guwahati station redevelopment work.”
