Adding to the list of rape incidents reported in Assam, another incident of rape has taken place at Old Maibang in Dima Hasao district.
In the latest incident of rape in the State, a girl was allegedly raped by one Akhtar Hussain, a vendor from Udali in Lanka of Hojai district on Monday, taking advantage of the girl’s loneliness as there was none except her when the vendor visited the area.
However, as the news of the incident spread, the locals immediately gathered at the spot and had beaten up.
Along with the girl, the vendor has also been admitted to Maibang Hospital.

Situation has already remained tense following the rape incident.
Sources said, “While the girl was busy weaving at her home, the vendor, Akhtar, who went to the area for selling saplings, raped the girl in her home taking advantage of her loneliness as there was none except her in that moment.”
Though accused Akhtar tried to flee after committing the crime, he was nabbed by the locals after beating black and blue. He was later handed over to the police.
“After the incident sensation prevails in the Maibang area. The police have shifted Akhtar to keep the situation under control,” informed sources.
