Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT) near Guwahati, Assam has won the District Green Champion Award, among all the colleges in Kamrup district.
The award was given for GIMT’s initiative taken under the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) and adopting and implementing the best practices in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, waste management, water management, energy management and greenery management.

A certificate was presented by Kailash Karthik N, Kamrup deputy commissioner to Prof Thuleswar Nath, Principal of GIMT at the DC office at Amingaon.
Earlier, an online event was organised by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
In the meeting, more than 150 participants from various colleges of Kamrup district participated in the meeting.

Some of the colleges also presented the initiatives taken by them in contributing towards Swachhta and Green campus at their college.
GIMT Principal – Prof Thuleswar Nath also spoke on the importance of cleanliness for keeping the body and mind healthy.
A presentation on the different Swachhta activities of GIMT and the implementation of the best practices in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, waste management, water management, energy management and greenery management was presented by Dr Bordoloi.
In the online meeting, Kamrup deputy commissioner – Kailash Karthik N, applauded the work of MGNCRE for initiating the SAP in all educational institutions and also congratulated GIMT for receiving the award.
