Assam government will offer free rice to the poor, announced state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.
He was speaking at a rally organised in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Golaghat district of Assam
“Moreover, we will also provide pulses for free to the poor,” Sarma added.
“Rice will be made available for free. Moreover, we also subsidise pulses and sugar by at least 50 per cent,” Sarma reiterated.
He further said that schemes will be announced in the next budget session of the assembly.
Criticising Congress for protesting against CAA, the minister further said, “It was the Congress that allowed illegal Bangladeshis to settle in Assam, especially in Kaziranga National Park (KNP).”
“So on what ground is it protesting against CAA now?” Sarma asked.
To counter against the growing anti-CAA protests rallies in Assam, the BJP has also been organising rallies across the state in support of the Act.
The party has been trying to make people understand about the Act.
In the rallies, the BJP has been constantly saying that the opposition, especially the Congress, is misleading the people regarding CAA.
