Former Cong legislator Enamul Haque Laskar arrested in graft case

Sleuths of the criminal investigation department (CID) of Assam police have reportedly arrested former Congress legislator Enamul Haque Laskar in connection with a graft case.

Sources said former Sonai MLA Laskar was arrested from Guwahati on Monday in connection with a scam in the state irrigation department involving Rs 270 crore.

The scam reportedly took place in the irrigation department in 2011 when Congress was in power in the state.

Laskar was appointed as OSD in the irrigation department in 2009 after his retirement from the same department.

Mathur Chandra Nath, an irrigation department employee, who committed suicide on November 26 in 2012, in a 22-page suicide note, alleged that Laskar had pressurized him to collect fund from contractors.
