Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has tested negative for COVID19.
The three-time former Assam CM, who is undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), tested negative for the virus at 5 pm on Tuesday, a source close to Gogoi informed Northeast Now.
However, despite the negative result, Gogoi’s family members have decided to keep the former chief minister for some more days in the hospital till his complete recovery.
The sources said, the family members decided to keep 85-year-old Gogoi under the observation of the medical team in GMCH as his health is gradually improving.
Gogoi was admitted to GMCH on August 25 last after he was infected by COVID19.
As the oxygen level of the former chief minister dropped on August 31 night, he was given plasma therapy.
Senior officials of Guwahati Medical College told Northeast Now that at around 11.30 pm on August 31, Gogoi’s oxygen level suddenly dropped to 88%, and was having breathing problems.
As Gogoi’s condition deteriorated, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rushed to the hospital and monitored his condition.
The state health department formed a 9-member committee of doctors to monitor the health status of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
The 85-year-old former chief minister has been shifted to a new paying cabin in Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) keeping in view of his age.
