Forest personnel of Assam’s national parks, sanctuaries to have advanced weapons

The Assam Government, which has already supplied sophisticated firearms to the forest personnel of Kaziranga National Park, will also provide advanced weapons to the forest personnel of other national parks and wildlife sanctuaries of the State.

Assam Forest & Environment Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said this while inaugurating the newly constructed entrance gate of Orang Tiger Reserve on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Suklabaidya said, “The State Government has supplied sophisticated firearms only for the forest personnel of Kaziranga National Park as of now,“ adding, “We will provide the advanced weapons to the forest personnel of other parks or sanctuaries of the State so that wild lives can be protected.”

He also informed that the Government has taken initiative to regularise the jobs of the forest personnel of the Orang National Park.

Addressing the gathering, Suklabaidya slammed the previous Congress Government in the State for doing ‘nothing’ for the park which was declared as a national park in 1999.

“The Congress Government in its 15 years of rule in the State did nothing for the park. There are a lot to do and we (BJP-led Government) are working for the development of the park,” Suklabaidya said.

Formerly known as Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park, the smallest national park in Assam, it was been declared a tiger reserve on February 24, 2016.
