The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued five girls and a boy from the clutches of traffickers and arrested a woman who was allegedly trying to lure them out of the state, said a railway official on Tuesday.

According to Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the incident took place on Monday when an RPF team spotted the girls and the boy sitting in the waiting room along with a woman, Rohila Basumatary.

The boy said that all of them were from Silapathar in Dhemaji district and were going to Gujarat for the first time with Basumatary to work in a fish packing company.

The RPF took the woman into custody and the youths were held back for further action.

Northeast is a popular hunting land for traffickers from where vulnerable minors are taken to places like Nepal and other parts of India for use as child labours.

In 2017, RPF personnel rescued 515 minor children and arrested 11 traffickers. This year the RPF has already rescued 244 children from railway premises across the NFR.
