Assam filmmaker Bhaskar Hazarika’s film Aamis will be premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year.

The film will be screened in the International Narrative Competition section at the 18th edition of the film festival which will be held from April 24 to May 5 in New York.

Aamis revolves around the relationship between a married paediatrician in her late 30s and a young PhD student.

The film depicts the life of Nirmali, a married paediatrician whose husband, a senior doctor, spends most of his time working leaving her alone to take care of their son. When Nirmali meets Suman, a young PhD student, he introduces her to a world of fresh, wild, meat-based delicacies.

The film also depicts how Nirmali and Suman bonded over food and how their relationship later takes a dark and bizarre turn.

Directed and written by Bhaskar Hazarika, Aamis stars Arghadeep Baruah, Lima Das, Neetali Das, Manash Das and Sagar Saurav. The film is produced by Poonam Deol and Shyam Bora.

Aamis has been selected to be one amongst the 103 films that will be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Bhaskar Hazarika won The Facebook Award for Aamis during the 12th edition of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Film Bazaar at the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

Bhaskar Hazarika who has worked extensively in Indian films has earlier won the National Film Awards for Best Feature Film in Assamese for his film Kothanodi.

Kothanodi also received a Post Production Grant from the Asian Cinema Fund and had its World Premiere at Busan International Film Festival.
