The Congress president has appointed two-time Congress MP from Assam’s Koliabor Lok Sabha constituency Gaurav Gogoi as the in-charge of Tripura and Manipur along with his current responsibilities of the party.
Gaurav Gogoi, son of three-time Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, is currently the in-charge of West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Earlier, Luizinho Faleiro was the AICC in-charge of Tripura, Manipur and other northeastern states.
However, Faleiro will continue as the party in-charge of other northeastern states.

Informing about the new development, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal in a press statement to the media houses said: “Hon’ble Congress President has appointed Shri. Gourav Gogoi, M.P as In-charge of Tripura and Manipur, along with his current responsibilities as In-charge of West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Shri. Luizinho Faleiro will continue as General Secretary In-Charge of other North-Eastern States.”
The AICC has taken the decision to remove Faleiro from the party responsibility in Tripura in the wake of Pradyot Manikya Debbarman resigning as Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and leaving the party alleging Faleiro’s interference in Tripura.
On being appointed as the in-charge of Tripura and Manipur, Gaurav Gogoi on his Twitter handle said: “On the auspicious day of #MahaNavmi, I have been blessed with a new responsibility. I’m grateful to Ma Durga for her grace. I will not let Congress President Madam Sonia Gandhi ji down.”

Firing a salvo at Falerio, Pradyot Debbarman had said: “Some people sitting in BJP and tried to control the Congress in Tripura and general secretary Luizinho Faleiro is listing them and acting as they want.”
Pradyot wrote on his official Twitter handle: “I tried and perhaps I lost but then how could I win when I was alone in this fight from the beginning?
I have decided that a positive mindset to life is what I need and
I have changed the people around me who are negative.”
