Ratul Nath, a convict who recently escaped from Jorhat Central Jail made the mistake of visiting his hometown Raha where he was subsequently arrested.

Nath, who is serving rigorous life imprisonment at Jorhat jail escaped on Tuesday. Rather than going anywhere, he straightaway landed at his own residence in Raha where Raha police was waiting to catch him after being notified by their Jorhat counterparts.

Moloy Acharjee, In-charge-of Raha Police Station told Northeast Now, “ Ratul escaped from Jorhat jail through the cracks in the wall. He obviously didn’t have any money with him. So, he walked till Dergaon from where he boarded a truck till Jokhalabandha. From there, he again walked the remaining distance.”

Nath was convicted for murder when he kicked a kid thus wounding him fatally and later killing him. Acharjee says, “ Though Ratul killed the accidentally, he later tried to hide his crime. The incident created huge sensation in Raha at that time. He was convicted by the Nagaon Court of District and Sessions Judge, of committing murder and awarded life imprisonment on December 14, 2012.”

Nath was initially sent to Nagaon central jail but when he was found taking ganja inside the jail, he was shifted to Jorhat. However, now he has created sensation in Jorhat also.

Acharjee says Ratul’s father who served in the military co-operated with the police. Now, Jorhat police has been notified who are on their way to take him back.
