A fierce encounter between the police and militants belonging to the United People’s Revolutionary Front (UPRF) is underway in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
Two militants of the UPRF have been gunned down by the police in the encounter.
The police have recovered two AK-47 rifles from the possession of the slain militants.
Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has said that “intermittent firing” is still underway at the encounter site.
“Braving the elements & extreme terrain, in an encounter @assampolice in #KarbiAnglong neutralized two militants belonging to United Peaple’s Revolutionery Front today. 2 AK 47 has been recovered from them. Intermittent firing is going on at the encounter site,” the Assam DGP tweeted.
He added: “The UPRF militants are actively working under the tutelage of poaching & Drug cartels of Churachandpur.”
