Sakhi, a one-stop centre to provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by sexual and physical violence, was inaugurated in Tezpur on Saturday.

Inaugurated at the Vidya Mandir building at Dhanua Nagar in Morabharalipar, a toll-free number 181 was also launched for the women in distress.

“One-stop centre will go a long way in providing support services for survivors of rape, domestic violence, acid attack and trafficking victims,” said Sonitpur Additional DC Kulen Sarma while addressing the gathering.

Assistant research officer of Social Welfare Department Mandira Baruah 181 Helpline centre coordinator Nilakshi Sarma, secretary of District Legal Services Authority were some of the other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion.

The one-stop centre has been set up by Sonitpur district administration and social welfare department.

The scheme is centrally sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Development under the National Mission for Empowerment of Women.
